When you move to a new place you will need the same utilities you needed before; Gas, Electrical, Water, Telephone, and some people consider Cable TV to be a utility. Since it is also a monthly bill I guess. To have everything run as smoothly as possible, let your current companies know that you are moving ahead of time and schedule an end of service date for your utilities. When making these calls it would be best to have all of account numbers handy and ready to go.
When calling your companies, find out if they service the area you are moving to. If they do, you can probably just have them transfer the service to your new address. If not, schedule that end of service date. It would also be wise to give your former companies a forwarding address, just incase there are issues or they owe you any deposits or refunds.
Next you need to do is to call the service companies for your new home to set up service start dates. You generally want to aim this startup date either the day off or a few days before your actual move. Though if you start the services even earlier before you move in, you will have time to see if there are any problems with the service in your new home and get them repaired.
All in all, it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle. Just follow the saying, “Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.”
